POSITION SUMMARY:

The Skate School Director is responsible for the overall management and operation of the ice rink's skate school program. This includes planning and scheduling classes, developing curriculum, overseeing instructors, marketing the program, and ensuring a positive customer experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Plan and develop the seasonal skate school schedule, including class types, days/times, pricing, and instructor assignments
  • Create and maintain a master class schedule
  • Develop and implement new skate school programs and initiatives to attract new students and retain existing ones
  • Oversee the registration process and manage class rosters
  • Monitor class enrollment and make adjustments as needed
  • Manage make-up classes and assign instructors
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive curriculum for all skate school levels
  • Ensure instructors are qualified and provide ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Observe classes and provide feedback to instructors to ensure consistent quality instruction
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the skate school program
  • Create flyers, brochures, and other marketing materials
  • Coordinate with the rink's marketing team to promote the program through various channels
  • Represent the skate school at community events
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns regarding the skate school program
  • Handle registration issues, scheduling conflicts, and refund requests
  • Ensure a positive and welcoming environment for all skate school participants
  • Develop and manage the skate school budget, including instructor salaries, equipment, and marketing materials
  • Purchase supplies and equipment necessary for the program
  • Maintain accurate records of skate school revenue and expenses
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in ice skating instruction
  • Oversee the use of the skate school equipment and ensure its proper maintenance
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the overall operation of the ice rink

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in sports management or related field preferred or appropriate experience equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in managing an ice facility
  • Proven experience in managing a skating program or similar experience in the sports or recreation industry
  • Strong knowledge of ice-skating techniques and instruction methods
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement programs
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to resolve conflicts effectively
  • Proficiency in computer software programs relevant to the job (e.g., spreadsheets, registration software)
  • Valid skating instructor certification preferred
  • Must possess current CPR/FIRST AID certifications or must be willing to obtain them within a specified period of time

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend
  • Will be required to operate a computer
  • Facility has intermittent noise
