Job Description

GD Resources LLC is seeking a highly skilled Contract Spanish–English Translator to support the International Boundary and Water Commission, United States and Mexico (USIBWC). This position provides translation services for high-priority diplomatic, engineering, legal, and technical documents used by the USIBWC Foreign Affairs Office.

This is a fully remote contract role requiring exceptional accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate a wide range of documents from Spanish to English , including:

    • Official diplomatic letters (1–3 pages; ~15–20/month)

    • News articles related to water and boundary issues (2–4/week)

    • International agreements, Minutes, Joint Reports (3–20 pages; fewer than 12/year)

    • Technical reports, scopes of work, administrative procedures, agendas, presentations (1–50 pages; 3–4/month)

    • Compare existing translations and recommend corrections (twice/month)

    • Occasional English → Spanish translation (approx. once/year)

  • Match original formatting in MS Word and PowerPoint, including tables, graphics, charts, shading, fonts, and layout.

  • Maintain translation logs, file metadata, correspondence links, and document histories in OneDrive/SharePoint .

  • Distribute completed translations via email; translate priority incoming letters within one business day .

  • Use MemoQ and machine translation tools to ensure consistent terminology; update translation memory databases regularly.

  • Attend weekly virtual staff meetings and quarterly bilingual coordination meetings with U.S. and Mexican Section personnel.

  • Provide contractor-furnished workspace, including computer, internet, phone, and office equipment.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all materials.

  • Ensure all work is completed by no more than two translators assigned to this contract.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional Spanish → English translation experience , specifically with technical, engineering, scientific, legal, or government documents.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex material accurately and consistently.

  • Experience using MemoQ , translation memory systems, and machine translation tools.

  • Strong proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint formatting.

  • Ability to provide work samples showing original Spanish documents and accurate English translations.

  • Familiarity with engineering, hydrology, water resources, legal terminology, or international agreements is highly desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Availability during standard U.S. business hours.

  • ATA certification or similar credentials preferred but not required.

About USIBWC

The International Boundary and Water Commission, United States and Mexico, is responsible for applying international boundary and water treaties, managing dams and flood control projects, operating sanitation and water facilities, and coordinating binational engineering initiatives. The Foreign Affairs Office manages official bilingual communication between both Sections of the Commission.
