Job Summary The Outpatient Complex Coder position handles coding and abstracting for complex outpatient surgical and observation services across all Banner hospitals, including academic, trauma, and high-acuity settings. Reviews records, assigns ICD-CM/PCS and CPT codes, completes APC assignments, and ensures accurate, ethical coding per regulations and national guidelines.
Job Description This position includes the highest level of complexity accounts for an ambulatory surgery center. Must be able to code any of the following:
- Orthopedics (Head to Toe)
- Pain Management (Injections + Implants)
- Neurosurgery (Spine Fusions, Spine + Neck)
- ENT
- General Surgery
- Observation
- Gynecology – Robotic Procedures
- Urology
- Ophthalmology (Eye Surgery)
- Anesthesia
- Emergency Department
- Radiology
- Laboratory
- Inpatient
Qualifications - CPC (Certified Professional Coder), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent coding certification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in surgery coding within a hospital and ambulatory setting.
