Job Description

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking a full-time Planner I to work within our Community Development .

The Planner I earns a competitive salary of $58,000 - $75,000/year, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A PLANNER I

Job Summary

The purpose of this job within the organization is to comply and analyze data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use, and prepare graphic and narrative reports on data, and to review residential and commercial permits.

This job works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Essential Functions

  • Complies and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use; prepares graphic and narrative reports on data.
  • Prepares and presents oral and written technical reports to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustments, City Council, and the general public.
  • Creates written documentation and maps indicating zoning; discusses appropriate zoning classifications for proposed land uses with citizens, developers, real estate agents and staff, and utilizes the comprehensive plan to determine the intended use for different areas of the community.
  • Confers with local authorities, civic leaders, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend arrangements of land and physical facilities for residential, commercial, industrial, and community uses.
  • Assists on long term planning projects such as annexation and conducts planning related research, land use studies, inventories.
  • Collects variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics such as census information, lands use, tax data base, and occupancy rates.
  • Reviews commercial and residential site plans for compliance with the Unified Development Code.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in urban planning or closely related field.
  • Requires one year planning or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
